After being beaten on an open street during a vist in Paris in June 2013, Kenny Bengtsson begins to photograph aimlessly in the city. He strolls around the streets in hope of finding meaning in his stay and belonging to his surroundings. He later goes home with film reels that is first developed two years later. Confused by the images and the memories that they ­evoke, he decides to return to Paris to investigate the condition he then ended up in. A few days after his arrival, he ends up in the middle of the terrorist attacks at Quai de Jemmape’s on Friday 13 November 2015.

The photographs in Under himlen, however, show no ­violence, rather the opposite through moments in between and the ­absence of conflicts. The book also contains ­diary ­fragments with associations about violence, the search for ­meaning, ­reflection on photography. In this way, the book is a ­documentary contemporary depiction and at the same times a kind of phenomenological story about how violence, both random and organized, affects a person.
